Katarina Barruk

  • Saturday 20:30, Idun

Katarina Barruk grew up in Lusspie in Storuman, but now lives in Umeå (Ubmeje). She has rised as a new star among the sami artists. Despite her youth she has already performed at many different scenes in both Sweden and internationally.

Katarina Barruk is one of the few of young same people that speaks the Umeå same language fluently. Considered as a treasure in her life since it gives her a special bond to her ancestors, and is a big part of her identity. But it is also a responsability where she believes that it is important to engage in order for the language to live on.

To this concert she brings the norwegian musicians Espen Høgmo, Pål Olav Loftesnes, Christo Stangness and Arnljot Nordvik. Together they offer a special concert where Katarina is in her right element through her songs. We will also listen to traditional joik from Västerbotten. Katarina really wants to give the audience strong feelings from the different objects she sings about.
